With our nose to the grindstone since the open of 2012, MESH has been focused on everything from Global Studio in India to the local DigiSo Project. Yesterday, after over six months collaborating with change-makers at the national chapter of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), the PEN American Center, and film-makers Doug Liman and Avram Ludwig, we finally launched the Reckoning With Torture Film Project. We’re so excited the New York Times has already covered the project in this article, pre-release, and can’t wait for user submitted content to become part of the Liman’s documentary through the site we built.
Happy Holidays from MESH xoxo
We love everything Mission Savvy- and are so impressed by this amazing female social entrepreneur and both her shops! Check out these sweet, eco and ethically responsible beauties…
We’re so happy to put together this wishlist guide for her, and so pleased with her new rebranding!
We were so happy to work with the kids of Charleston Montessori to spend an afternoon making letters and words out of found materials around their school! This one was made by the kids using beautiful outdoor objects from their school garden and the surrounding area. Check out the typographic installations made of Montessori learning materials, blocks, and even artwork at their new website!
Maybe you’ve seen the new logo for Charleston Montessori floating around town? Based on the original Montessori tree, we incorporated the ideas of growth into a simplistic, minimal mark inspired by the seeds of ideas. The geometric shapes harken back to Montessori learning tools, with a slight play on primary colors. We are so excited to be a part of this new brand and this new school! More on Charleston Montessori, coming soon…
Even through fall, we still can’t get enough of Ellen’s Homemade IceCream. Not only do we love all her special flavors, but have you tried her espresso, or tasted her wraps? We loved working on Ellen’s new site and photography, not only because we love this hometown staple, and not only because it’s such a pleasure to work with a small-business owner who really cares about every detail of how she runs her shop (we can relate!) – but because we discovered how AMAZING all her other treats are outside of just her ice cream!
The best part – Sam – our intern from last summer and an Ellen’s ice-cream scooping veteran – helped art direct the photography and typography, inspired by the Ellen’s daughters handwriting on their chalkboard menus! Make sure to check out her blog for weekly updates on weekly special flavors, soups, and seasonal treats!
Attended the Design Exchange Panel Lecture last night at the United Nations, organized by the Cooper Hewitt’s ongoing showcase, DESIGN WITH THE OTHER 90%. The show is up right now at the UN and shows how design and design ingenuity can partner with global initiatives to improve the way we live. Check out the site and see how you can get involved, especially if you are a designer! You can even join their network, and promote your own projects that are using design to improve the ways we live. Anna Rubbo, a professor at the University of Sydney, spoke on the panel, and will be one of the hosts of the Global Studio 2012 in Bhopal (which Megan will be attending – more on that soon!!) Design is changing the face of development and communication – start looking into how you can join this movement too!
Remember our type installation, Ode to the West Side, we wheat-pasted last summer? Well here is an awesome video Sam made of our process!

So many things have been happening these past two months at MESH! We’ve had our two year birthday, had our nose to the grindstone with some great new projects, and are expanding! More on that later, this past week Megan had the awesome opportunity to attend the half day conference hosted by Charleston Area Alliance, Elevations Enrichment & Leadership Academy. By women and for women, they had some very powerful speakers in the room that morning, with lots of interesting and inspiring dialogue on what West Virginia women are doing in the world and where they are going. Check out the Gazette article here, with an interview of Megan! Props to Charleston Area Alliance and JoEllen Zacks, who put on a great morning!
Next up in this week’s new site roundup is Providence ¡CityArts! for Youth! We love working with non-profits, and CityArts is no exception. Providing free professional arts education to Providence youth between ages 8-14, CityArts is working towards a great cause that MESH couldn’t be happier to support!
