Studio Mesh is hiring a Graphic Designer.

Job Description:

Studio Mesh is seeking a full-time graphic designer for our Brooklyn office. You, as our new graphic designer, with the guidance and strategy support of the Creative Director, will design print, branding, and web design work for a variety of nonprofit, artisan, and small businesses doing awesome things. You will work as project lead on a variety of projects with the assistance of a junior designer, and collaborate with developers, writers, printers, and photographers on a variety of projects. You are energized working collaboratively, but are also very self-directed and proactive. You believe in good smart design made to open people up to new ideas, encourage new dialogue, and allow information to be more accessible.

Responsibilities:

You love to design and strategize thoughtful, awesome work.

Will work on projects as project lead, and support in team collaborative projects.  Must be able to concept and design with guidance from a Creative Director, work directly with clients via multiple platforms of communication—phone, email, and in person—as well as execute production of print and web files.

Designer will:

– design branding systems, from logomark making to full brand visual systems.

– design web experiences and interactions, in a range of project scales and levels of complexity, from simple one page websites to complex informational systems for web. Experience in web design and understanding of responsive design systems is imperative.

– design print work, including packaging, publications, reports, promotional pieces, and stationary sets incorporating typography, illustration, infographics and photography.

– be attentive to client feedback, with ability to understand their larger design needs as well as follow lists of edits from feedback with detail.

– be experienced with typographic systems, both online and in print.

Be comfortable preparing files for printers and developers, with an understanding of industry standard in multiple mediums, color formats, and general best practices.

You love working with people.

Good time management and communication skills for clients, in collaboration with timelines and workplans made by our project manager and team leaders (considering factors such as client needs and specifications, studio workflow, and personnel such as collaborators, decision makers, and team members.) It’s important to our culture and process that we work directly with the people that we make work with. A graphic designer will be expected to communicate with clients clearly, effectively, and professionally via email, phone, or in-person.

You thrive in a collaborative small studio environment.

Strong internal communication within studio is important to making our best work. Active participant and contributor to team meetings, brainstorms, critique, and collaborations. Clear and professional communication with studio network, such as photographers, vendors, and printers.

Qualifications:

– 2-4 years experience working in communication design field
– BA/BFA in graphic/communication design
– good at communicating, both verbally and visually
– detail-oriented and organized
– proactive thinker; you approach content constructively and analytically in regards to audience and message
– flexible and willing to learn
– ability to work quickly and seamlessly between projects
– strong sense of typography, color, and composition
– fluent in adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator software
– interest in human-centered design. Many of our clients are non-profits and small businesses located in the northeast. A passion for creating design work with these kinds of client is important.
– interest in growing long-term with a small studio
