Program Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Position through MESH Design + Elk City Renewal Association

The MAKESHOP Design Lab, run by MESH Design and Elk City Renewal Association (ECRA), are looking for a Program Coordinator to assist in the coordination and programming of the youth design + tech program: Makeshop Appalachia as well as building capacity for the Makeshop Design Lab. You will be working directly with the Operations Manager and the public. This position is for 35 hrs/week for 8 weeks and has the potential to turn into a longer term engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate workshops with a focus on youth design + coding workshops
    • Coordinate and manage workshops schedule
    • Set up and break down of workshops
    • Work directly with youth as a mentor during workshops
  • Support adaptation of workshop curriculum into a digital format in response to CoVid-19
  • Support with capacity building for programming sustainability
  • Greet visitors during open hours + coordinate community coworking visitors
  • Support the Operations Manager on a day-to-day basis as needed
  • Maintain the community space

About the Position:

  • Positions include a living allowance and an Education Award -or- Cash Bonus.
  • Projects last for 8 weeks. Summer Associate members serve a minimum of 35 hours per week.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of placement.
  • Position begins June 15, 2020.
  • AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates serve at nonprofits, schools, and local government agencies. 
  • VISTAs serve children as mentors, camp coordinators, lead summer programming, and assist summer feeding programs. 

About MAKESHOP Design Lab:

The MAKESHOP Design Lab is a storefront community space in the Elk City neighborhood of Charleston, West Virginia. We run community and youth workshops, a community coworking space, and pop-up shops. We partner with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, Boss Babes WV, Fun Fitness Kids Club, Financial Literacy Bootcamp, Literacy Volunteers of Kanawha County w/ the ACLU, Queer Appalachia in all our programming.
